So you've had a bad weekend... you fell into the chipper and you accidentally remembered that Dominos is on your speed dial! The key to being happy in your own skin is not giving up on you... Start right now... plan a healthy lunch, go for a walk at lunchtime, write a shopping list for the journey home, plan your meals for the week... just start... start to care about you... start to be happier... you won't regret it x

Just start...

Soulful one pots...
One pots are great when you're in a hurry, or you get home late, are hungry and don't want to hit the loaf of bread in your bread bin... These are in Aldi at the moment and whilst a little high for half a pot with zero veggies and protein you could have a pretty quick dinner in a few minutes!
Anyone tried them out?

Spotted these in Tesco in the crisp/snack aisle.. I do love to loiter there and talk myself out of buying crisps (please tell me I'm not the only one!!!) Roasted corn snacks called Love Corn in three flavours... all 45g bags if you're looking for a savoury alternative... x

Wind yourself up!
The bank holiday is over here in Ireland... we're all back at our desks and the sun is hiding again... Whatever happened over the weekend, it's done... we can't go back and change it, we can dwell on it and make ourselves miserable or we can rev up and just take it one step at a time...
Wind yourself up today, give yourself 5 minutes to do a meal plan, a shopping list, text a friend and meet up for a walk... just don't let what happened last weekend ruin your week...
x
↧
↧
Self doubt...
Why do we always doubt ourselves? Why do we always think the worst, hide ourselves away and think 'sure I'd be rubbish at that' and not bother pursuing something that we might really love? Why?
I'm as guilty as the next person believe me... with every blog post I think 'what am I on about?!' but I love doing it and whatever the trolls and haters think I let them... the only thing we should be doubting is how much we can actually achieve! The sky is the actual limit if you really believe it...
If you really believe you can feel happy in your on skin, then the only thing stopping you.. is you!
It's not about calories, or scales or dress sizes... these are just some of the tools we all use to gauge how we're doing... the really success if looking in the mirror and feeling good about yourself and that takes lots of tools... when we doubt we can do it, we set ourselves up for failure... we give ourselves permission to stage dive off the wagon and use food to silence the emotions...
So don't doubt you... doubt how far you can go!

Prep Co.
I spotted these in Tesco the other week and thought I'd SP them just to see how high they were... I'm always wary of things like this, they always tend to be high in hidden sugar and salt... Remember when you're working out the points for dried processed foods you need the nutritional information of the product 'as prepared' ... e.g. weight for one of these before you add water is only 68g - the points would be very low, whereas once the product has been re-hydrated it's 243g, it's how you should be pointing it... a mistake I've made many times and just something to be wary of... All of these are different weights when prepared so I've added those in too... I've tasted the mediterranean one and it was very filling... you'd easily get two good lunches out of one tub if you were doing chicken and lots of zero heros... anyone else tried them out? x
Prep Co., Indian spiced lentils and rice, 246g - 10SP
Prep Co., Mediterranean couscous, 252g - 11SP
Prep Co., Mexican chilli rice, 243g - 10SP
Prep Co., Thai green curry rice & quinoa, 251g - 9SP

John West - Spreadables
These little pots of tuna are SO handy for lunch but a little on the high side for me... John Wests bin tin of tuna is only 1SP and add a little 'lighter than light' mayo from Aldi and you're all set for a couple of points... your herbs and spices can make a world of difference too! If you're stuck and just fancy tuna these can be handy and you know exactly what you're getting as opposed to anything you might get at a random deli counter... x
John West Spreadables, Tuna, mayo & sweetcorn, 80g - 5SP
John West Spreadables, Tuna Mediterranean, 80g - 4SP
John West Spreadables, Tuna Mexican style, 80g - 4SP
John West Spreadables, Tuna mild curry, 80g - 6SP

Stay in your own lane!
This is the mantra I try to live by...
Stay in your own lane...
This is true of every aspect of life. Often I get messages telling me the Weight watchers is rubbish and some other group is MUCH better and I should move... I normally don't reply, because random strangers don't know anything about me, they think they do and yes I haven't been the perfect weight watcher member but who has?! I derailed, I put my paws up and I'm getting back to where I want to be... People messaging me about promoting the diet industry just get blocked, I don't promote anything, I don't flog WW products, I don't tell anyone to go to a meeting, I just share my journey and how I NEED a meeting, I NEED accountability I CAN'T do it on my own, I NEED the support and understand of others who understand how I feel about my body... and if me wanting to be a happier version of myself upsets someone else, they need to get back in their own lane!
Of course there are times when we need to all get out of our lanes as a community, this weekend the anger and rage at the popes visit just made me stay off line, I was too angry about the waste of resources that this country needs to spend on people who desperately need it... I'm not against religion, I stay in my own lane... if you believe that Buddha, Allah, Jesus or even unicorns are in charge of the universe good for you but when any of those things hurt our communities we need to stand together and get out of our lanes collectively as a people... I'm very proud to be of this generation of Irish people who are standing up for all Irish families who need love and support... The divorce referendum helped families, the marriage referendum helped families and the abortion referendum helped families and it seems to be one fight against the system after another but our collective voice is being heard... We are becoming a nation of people who are prepared to stand up against the wrong doings and protect our families...
Your lane is yours, your journey is about you... you do what works for you... Count points, syns, calories or don't count anything at all but whatever you do, don't get preachy from your lane and if anyone peeps into your lane and doesn't have something nice to say tell em to get right back into theirs!

You be you!
It's something that I keep talking to people about... We don't all fit into the same mould... Every single one of us is unique You are you... Your journey is yours... There are lots of people counting points/syns/macros/calories and succeeding because they are doing what's right for them... if there was a holy grail plan that worked for everyone on the planet we'd all be doing it... but we're all different, so don't get down if a plan isn't working for you... try something new, don't feel bad for doing what's best for you... it's your life... your health... you deserve to feel happy in your own skin and to whatever it takes to make you happy... If we all loved the same thing, the world would be very dull!
Here's to a good week!

Thank you...
I'm not sure if they're called blogaversaries or if there is some other name that I haven't heard of yet but The Skinny Doll is 8! Yup, I've been blogging 8 years now... it's been frustrating, joyous, infuriating, wonderful and not to be too dramatic, it's probably saved my life...
8 Years ago I was pretty broken, I still have no self esteem (I still apologise when people meet me for the 'rabbit-in-the-headlights-look') but I was very unhappy and the future looked pretty bleak... I had been on YouTube doing videos for a while and an American girl called Hazel told me I should document my journey and share it with others and that's how it started... I knew I couldn't be the only person feeling like I did about my weight... I am bulimic and I suffer with PCOS as well as some other health issues so my journey was never going to be a straight road to goal and I knew that. I have struggled with food since I was a child and the mental process I have had to work through has been tiresome... but I was determined to never quit on myself... I had to stop being a people pleaser, something I still struggle with today and remember I am worthy of being happy too... It's very easy to put on a smile and a brave face for the world, many people do that everyday so I've tried to keep it honest... I've documented the melt downs, the fury, the disappointment with myself, the losses and the gains and how I've changed over the years...
Blogging has never been about numbers to me, people follow and unfollow all the time and it doesn't bother me... Anyone who knows me in real life will tell you the idea of buying a single follow is just a waste of money (it takes a lot to part me from my cash folks!) ... Trolls are real and whilst it's hurtful to hear the rubbish they spew, I've learned if you give them air, they continue to breathe. We all have a block button to get rid of them... Awards are wonderful and it's nice to be acknowledged for your hard work but they're not the be all and end all... I've never promoted the blog, my thinking was if you need it you'll find it and that's how it's grown... Recently I have been losing the same pounds over and over again ... So I'm taking this 'birthday' as a line in the sand... I want to lose my weight, I don't want to be skinny, I want to be happy and healthy and I'm more determined now to get there...
The 'saving my life' bit... well if I hadn't started this blog, I wouldn't have met so many inspiriting people both in real life and online, people who laugh along with bake off, and cry at the 24hrs in A&E... People who motivate me, encourage me and understand that being body positive isn't just looking in the mirror and saying 'god I'm great' when you aren't happy in your own skin and you can't bare to look at the reflection... If I hadn't started it, I honestly don't think I'd be here and whilst that saddens me, it makes me realise who far I've come in the journey even though I'm not at goal... It's grown from a depressed woman crying out for support into a community who support and understand each other, share tips and advice and for that I'm very very grateful... so thank you xxx

Your future is in good hands...
Being sick for the last two weeks had really shown me just how much we have to look after ourselves, properly! The first week of not resting up and doing what I was told only led me to get worse, much worse and I was kicking myself for not listening to my doctor... I suffer from bronchitis nearly every year now and I'm used to inhalers and the annual 2 weeks of no sleep so I should have known better... Yes, I've cabin fever, I got a bit lonely but I'm responsible for my health... me! I'm responsible for my weight loss and feeling happy in my own skin can only happen if I look after myself properly... so this week some self care, a healthy food shop and a lot of fresh air now my lungs are improving... if you see me strolling around Marley gimme a wave! I am going to class this week, not because I want to know what I weigh but because I need to be accountable and if I give myself permission to miss one class, I will most definitely let it slide and give myself many classes off! I need the companionship... nothing like being in a room full of people who understand where you're at, I need the accountability and I get so much out of my class so I stay religiously and if I can't get to mine I always try to make another one! So slowly back on track, final check up on Wednesday with the doctor... cross all fingers and toes please... x
