Every class has got one... Lets' call her 'Kate' ... she loses every week, she's nearly at goal and she started 5 mins ago... Bitter much?! Yup! But what we've got to remember is everyone is different... when I joined Weight Watchers (this time around!) I looked at some of the people in the queue and wondered if I was in the wrong group! These people didn't need to be at Weight Watchers! But 7lbs to one person is the same as 70lbs to another... and 7lbs can be just as hard to lose as 70lbs ... Some of the people in that queue had lost loads of weight, they were nearly at goal... what we've got to remember is everyone is different stages of their weight loss journeys... 

Your journey is exactly that YOURS... my journey is mine... Just because someone else is getting closer to goal doesn't mean we're failures... we're on our own path, so lets just support each other!

Ok, it's summer... it's here (apparently!) and you're not a size 6 and everything still kinda wobbles a bit... This isn't the time to throw in the towel and what yourself through till September when the 'Christmas' countdowns begin! This is the time to celebrate how far you've come and live life!

Your kids/boyfriend/husband/friends don't see wobbles... They see you not jumping the pool having fun... They see the miserable face of someone who isn't really enjoying their holiday... Children see (and FOLLOW!) how you behave and how you act... If you're off on holidays, make memories! Life is too short and your children won't remember how many points you ate on holiday... they'll remember dripping 99s, sharing fish & chips and laughing in the sunshine (I'm an optimist!)... Your friends will remember that booty up at karaoke and laughing till it hurts! These people love you, just the way you and are, and whilst the bigger picture is to be a new healthy improved version of you, until then, be proud of how far you've come and get out and live! 

So if you're not at goal, you will be... But now is the time to put on the swimming cozzies and tear into the water squealing with the rest of them!

Not sugar coating it... (cause that would cost SmartPoints!) but the fight to do it, whatever 'it' is, is within you... if you want something bad enough, you'll do it... it might take months, or like me years, but when you REALLY want something you will do whatever it takes to do it... 

It's hard! Losing weight is really hard... eating a chocolate bar requires no thinking, no effort (unless you've hidden them and forgotten where they are... just me?!) ... staying on plan, making decisions, planning, tracking, scheduling time for your meeting all takes effort especially when your mindset is 'why bother?!' but when you focus on how you felt the day you made the decision to get healthy... you know that you never want to go back there ever again... so every small, teeny tiny decision is worth it! 

I've fallen off the wagon spectacularly sometimes, I don't know anyone who hasn't! But life constantly reminds me that I never, EVER want to go back to that person who was afraid to go to the shops in case people were judging her shopping, the girl who dodged every invitation not because she didn't want to go have fun but because she didn't think she was worth it, people only invited her because they felt sorry for her... that person who smiled all the time but who's knees ached all night when she just wanted to be happy... really happy... That's where the power is... in your darkest feelings... when you feel the most down and miserable you need to remember it... feel it and think 'nope, not any more!' ... harness it and use it to get what you really really want! Success!

If you're going through the downs, rather than the ups, just remember how much you want it... remember you're reading this post because you want to keep going, you want to get to goal, you want to be successful and happy in your own skin... remember how you felt that first weigh in? remember how even thinking about clothes shopping made you cry? Then take out your tracker, plan out your breakfasts and there's a third of the weeks meals on plan! We got this... whenever you feel like you're in the middle of a storm look around there's a sea of rainbows ahead!

Aren't we all SO busy? Aren't we all in a rush to get to the next step on the ladder of life? One of the top tips my leader tells us regularly is put your knife and fork down when your eating... Digest your food & remember your meal is just as important as everyone else's! 

How many of us eat our toast at the toaster whilst the kettle is boiling? How many of us grab a sandwich on the go? How many of us munch the first thing we can get our paws on in the car? It's bad for our digestion, it's bad for our brain space and very often, anything eaten on the hop never finds its way onto a tracker! Grabbing something that's not on the plan tells our brain that our bodies just aren't worth nourishing properly! 

'This will do' ... really won't!

So take out the fancy plates, and get your toastie on it! What or who are you saving them for? You're worthy of using your best and favourite things in your own home, so get the fancy schmancy wine glasses out and fill it up with your water, pull up a seat and enjoy your food! You're worth it!

You know those weeks when you ONLY lose half a pound... or ONLY a pound... This quote made me think... instead of thinking that it's lost somewhere, sneakily hiding out to find us again when we lose the run of ourselves... lets wave goodbye to it... it's done, gone, never to be seen again! When we set off the scales, we need to say 'That's the last time I'll ever see that number...' 

We haven't lost it... we're getting rid of it!

Ever see the green eyed monster on social media? Ever feel deflated because you just feel like you're going in circles and other people are passing you by... Here's the thing we all need to remember... we all walked into a meeting for the first time at one point, some of us have started and restarted over and over... we all had to learn how to SmartPoint foods, how to track and how to pull back on a Monday after a weekend on the tiles! We all started at the same line, so never feel like you can't do it, or you'll never get the hang of it, and never let an online calculator win! There's people at the start of their journey, people chugging through the middle of the journey and people with the finish line in sight but we will all get there!

Imagine it though?! Write 10 things you love about you... it's not as easy as it sounds! Yet if I said pick 10 faults with your body, we could be here all day! I've a very long list of things I don't like about me... and my Irish DNA means I cannot accept a compliment, it's impossible! 

How many of us compliment someone, only to hear ... 'this old thing?! This is ancient, sure I didn't even iron it! I got it for €1 somewhere 15 years ago, god I'm embarrassed to even tell you!' ... It's impossible for us to just say 'thank you, it's my favourite and I love it!' 

It's the same when you lose some weight, someone says 'you're looking great!" my first instinct is to say 'ah yeah but I've SO much more to lose! Sure I'm only half way there...' and I pull a 'I'm disappointed in myself too!' face...

Society has us in a heap, if we're not tanned enough, with flawless skin, over 5'11' and a size 10, we feel like we're just not good enough... our boobs are too big/small/flat, our hair is too fine/curly/straight... we're too short or too tall... we can't win and we're fighting an invisible battle! 

So lets just give up the fight... lets have a bit of a love in... Today, give yourself a compliment! 'My hair looks so shiny today I love it!' ... 'I have always had fabulous teeth!' ... 'I love having blue eyes' ... 'I feel great in this dress' ... 'I love my new nail polish...' anything to start the ball rolling and every day obsess about one thing about you! It's not as easy as you think but after a while you'll feel a damn sight better about you!

I recently posted this on my Instagram page and lots of interest! Usually to flavour quark it's add some choc shot or some flavouring with fruit but these are yum! Only two in the range, plus the original plain one and for the 150g tub they are 2SP! If you're getting a bit bored with the plain stuff they are definitely worth a try, very thick and creamy for the dessert fans! I got these in SuperValu.

This weeks tip comes to from my counsellor! Good lord that woman has earned her money! Something she has been telling me for years... literally years! I am my own worst enemy! I can dream up fabulous excuses not to do things, I can talk my way in and out of pretty much anything elcept what I want to do! Yet when I just get out of the way and do what i really want, I'm happy, delighted with life! Who knew!? So today think... what's holding you back? Why won't you wear that red dress? those crazy earrings that you love? why won't you go to that party? Why are you hold yourself back? What's the real reason? Because in 100 years time, hell 50 years time it's really not going to matter! x

I remember in my first french class in school, our teacher went round the class asking how many brothers and sisters we all had... I was the only, only child in my class and she said... ah you will need to say this...  'Je suis un enfant unique!' I am a unique child, something my mum would probably agree with but for different reasons! 

All those magazines and online surveys with headlines that scream 'we can fix you because you've got XYZ body type!' is all nonsense! 'Is your beach body ready?!' Like they say, got a body? at the beach? You've already got a beach body! 

You can't package everyone up into the same box! Everyone is different... and people's weight loss journeys are different... Your body type is you! Some people lose two pounds a week and that's that!  Others lose half pound every second week and that's that! There is not one other human on the planet like you and there won't ever be another one like you! You need to do what's good for your body, what make you feel good, what gives you energy and makes you happy! Don't compare your journey to someone else, they're doing whats good for them... Thankfully we're not all the same, we don't all conform to what some magazine tells us... we're all unique so you do you!

Just look at the difference in SmartPoints! Before I left town, I SmartPointed the new recipe 'Guilt Free Snacking' range of popcorns from M&S and right beside the I snapped some of the 'Not so guilty' flavours! We've all done it... a bridesmaid dress, a communion, holiday, wedding... we've all lost weight for other things... remember photos last a lifetime! But sometimes you've got to think about what got you to the scales... high blood pressure? Feeling tired all the time? The misery of clothes shopping? The ultimate goal is to make you happy... if you're happy, it filters through to everyone you love and everything you do... You can play with your kids now... YAY! Doctor gives you a clean bill of health? YAY! You're no longer a misery to be around because you're happy in your own skin and everyone can see that! So when you run out of reasons to do it... just remember to do it for you!

Don't lose yourself!

So your mum thinks those jeans are lovely but would be a bit 'nicer' if you weren't a bit chubby... Your auntie thinks you should give up the diet lark, you look dreadful when your TOO skinny! You're the 'cuddly' one in the family and sure aren't you grand the way you are! Your friends LOVE that you're always up for junk food after shopping, I mean they love you just the way you are too... bigger than them! Himself likes something to hold onto, loves you regardless but your refusing to turn on the lights, in case he gets a look at what you really look like under that duvet and he'll leave you! 

If you made a list of what everyone thought about you and your body, and tried to keep them all happy, you would look like some kind of frankenstein concoction! I mean, I would love to have brown eyes, no amount of weight is going to make that happen... No one is going to be taller when they get to goal... but trying to make everyone else happy means you won't be! You want to lose weight to get into those jeans, tune out the mothers voice! Your auntie thinks your five, and 5 year olds should not be skinny in her mind... You 'friends' want you to be the one always trying to lose weight, always up for chips and pizza, and you seem happy enough so what's the problem... you make them feel better about them and their bodies! Most of these might not be true or you can understand every single on of them! The only person you need to keep happy is you! If you're happy, every one around you will be happy for you and you'll be a lot more fun to be hang out with!  


Why it's OK to 'start again' ...

We see it all the time from the weight loss purists 'oh she's starting again... EVERY Monday she's starting again...' Getting healthy for some people is a 24/7 job and they can kinda look down on those of us who 'go mad' at the weekend... they tut at our loss of self control, they give knowing nods when we're tweeting pics of our G&Ts on a Saturday night and are never shocked when we're up at the scales... they're right of course in one respect, giving yourself permission to go mad all the time isn't healthy but I love people who live their life to the full and the definition of that is different for everyone. Some people have a fancy cream cake on a Saturday with a full fat latte, some people live for their Chinese every week, for some it's a bottle of wine on a Saturday watching telly, while others just want cocktails with their friends. 'Starting again' just means you're living your life and still not giving up on your goals! How many times have you had disastrous weekend and let it slide for the whole week? Before you know it a month has passed and you're in a worse place that if you had just enjoyed that treat and got back in the game straight away! I'm not a purist, I love living my life to the full... like most people I learned from a young age that life is short and in 50 years time no one is going to care if I had a gin and tonic at the weekend but I know if I keep chipping away at my weight loss I'll still feel a bit better about me every day! So, draw the lines in the sand, start afresh and wipe a slate clean it's Monday and we have the whole week ahead of us! x
